JJ Pugsley is a 2nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who competes professionally in MMA events hosted by Fight to Win Promotions on FloGrappling. He is currently sponsored by Bad Boy brands, joining their elite pro team in 2016.
His Jiu-Jitsu journey began at the age of 16 years old while living in San Diego, CA. JJ instantly fell in love with the sport and promptly found himself competing in local tournaments and training with some of the best practitioners in the world.
While he continued to compete in Jiu-Jitsu only events over the years, JJ Pugsley began to branch out and compete in MMA events as well. In 2003, JJ Pugsley won his division at the Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Pan Ams and King of the Cage MMA events.
In 2005, JJ shifted his focus to teaching, giving him the opportunity to share his knowledge and love of Jiu-Jitsu with others. He began teaching and working with the original members of the Factory X fight team. After some time off from competition, however, JJ Pugsley decided that it was time for him to get back on the mats as a competitor.
JJ Pugsley quickly rose back up the ranks. In 2013, JJ submitted all of his opponents in route to the final of the ADCC North American trials, one of the most prestigious grappling tournaments in the world. After earning a silver medal in the trials, JJ was eager for more and set his sights on the world stage.
In preparation for the 2017 trials, JJ Pugsley began his professional Jiu-Jitsu career with the Fight to Win Promotions organization. In the main event of their inaugural card, JJ faced off against the No Gi World Champion, Joao Assis. He has also faced off against other great champions such as Rafael Davis and Carlos Farias.

JJ Pugsley is a graduate of the Argosy University and the University of the Rockies, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in psychology. He was inspired to educate himself in psychology from a human perspective after watching several good friends in the military go through TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). JJ is currently pursuing a doctorate in Neuropsychology to offer support that many veterans are not receiving.
